Their beef is that they want more from a comment, that they are looking for constructive criticism. Putting a widget on your site stating the number of visitors or subscribers doesn't either but that's a discussion for another time. I don't know if this is due to personal taste/need or a trend in the blogosphere.

You need to network with like minded individuals and build relationships with people in the blogosphere so that you ultimately get inbound links, comments, and visibility. Whenever I have friends looking to enter teh blogosphere, I always remind them that the internet has an impressively long memory, so be careful what you put out there.
