Today, I performed a really simple test to see if Likes from social media type websites could contribute to a top search engine ranking in the search engines. So, what did I do to set up and prove my theory that social media likes contributes to search engine rankings? The results? The Experiment. The Results.

SEO Blogging – With SEO blogging, the idea is to produce content that gains search engine traction. This type of blogging has a bad name in some circles. You set up a domain name with your primary keyword in it and target that keyword plus several more that are related. Either way, the main target is search engines.

Every web portal has to abide by Google’s webmaster guidelines to reach amongst the top ranking in search engine results. Two of the most common Google penalties are Google Panda and Google Penguin and few others which de-index your web portal and in some cases removes the website from the search engine results.

Social blogmarking sites. Another underutilized but effective way to get traffic to your blog is by making use of social blogmarking sites. Even though this concept looks similar to social bookmarking sites like Digg and Reddit, it operates differently. The quality and title of the article is all that matters.

I like to focus on building search engine traffic to my sites because once you have rankings you can usually sustain them with little effort and the traffic they send is very targeted. If you’re entering an industry with a brand new site, the last thing you want to do is wait that long for some good search engine traffic.
