Today, I performed a really simple test to see if Likes from social media type websites could contribute to a top search engine ranking in the search engines. So, what did I do to set up and prove my theory that social media likes contributes to search engine rankings? The results? The Experiment. The Results.

SEO Blogging – With SEO blogging, the idea is to produce content that gains search engine traction. This type of blogging has a bad name in some circles. You set up a domain name with your primary keyword in it and target that keyword plus several more that are related. Either way, the main target is search engines.

Social blogmarking sites. Another underutilized but effective way to get traffic to your blog is by making use of social blogmarking sites. Even though this concept looks similar to social bookmarking sites like Digg and Reddit, it operates differently. The quality and title of the article is all that matters.

I like to focus on building search engine traffic to my sites because once you have rankings you can usually sustain them with little effort and the traffic they send is very targeted. These days I’m spending my time focusing on much bigger (and more competitive markets) and having a lot of success.
