I needed to differentiate Digg from social media because they actually are part of a distinctive community (and as you know, I’m very passionate about Digg so it really did deserve its own category). I get fixated on one community and ditch the last, yet I still have my profiles on them and they usually get outdated within minutes.

About a month before the Unconference, we sent an email out to the team asking for people to propose potential topics via the wiki. Does your organization have an internal microblogging service (Twitter is most likely too public for most)? Sessions were then voted on by the rest of the members of the team. Heroes At the Gov 2.0

As the story goes, Twitter early adopter Chris Messina, proposed the hashtag for organizing tweets.

40 Key Elements to Getting Started in Social Media (Louis Gray): Mike Fruchter writes an awesome blog post on Louis Gray’s blog about how to get involved in social media, from branding to blogging to Twitter to community. Good thing he proposes how to fix them also! It’s definitely a worthwhile read. This is a great read.

One of the topics was microblogging, and Twitter was discussed. Since then, the students have formed their own vibrant community on Twitter. I am actually in the process of proposing a class like this at the local JC (I would like to teach it even). Now if it could only stay up, we would be in business). Awesome article!

When dealing with emotions, psychology, anthropology, sociology, among other disciplines, you’re bound to make “mistakes&# as you attempt to understand demographics and communities and learn about who will be receptive to what. It should be about growing the community, not cutting new people off while they learn the ropes.

I always tell people that I would be happy to provide them a proposal to help them which sets out what I will do and for what fee. I have to wrestle again with those that want you to tell them the information before they want to accept the proposal. It happens in religious communities too. Maybe that is just me. You usually do.
