I ran a DJ blog which I later let die due to other interests and I even ran ViperChill for a year (a long time ago) without getting one single comment or feed subscriber. Yet, if I notice a “11,652 subscribers&# feedburner chicklet before clicking the close tab, it’s far more likely to make me stick around.

It also gets your site listed in Technorati and other blog aggregation services. It’s common though that when someone puts images in their post and they align nicely, things won’t look as pretty when you get the post in a feed reader. I have also created a page which lists all of my articles for usability.

Subscriber Stats Feedburner is so erratic that I just can’t take it that seriously anymore. July 1st : 7,543 July 31st : 8,174 Change : +631 For writing so little, and having a lot less traffic than most months, July didn’t turn out too badly at all in terms of feed growth. The rest of this year is going to rock!

I remember the days when traffic from the service would only have a 30% bounce rate, and while it’s around 80% now, a percentage of visitors still leave comments and sign-up to your RSS feed which is what most people want them to do. First, if you look at their traffic stats with Compete you can see that they have traffic spikes and dips at around the same time: Then, looking at feed subscribers , despite the large difference at the start of the graph, their growth rate is on a very similar consistent rise. This isn’t just some coincidence.

With over 4 million RSS subscribers according to Feedburner, it’s clear they’re not struggling. Zen Habits , with over 190,000 feed subscribers, is a blog with emphasis on productivity and minimalism. I could list many more examples, but there’s a reason why it won’t help. Yet, they are being surpassed.
