The other trick I use is looking at competitors backlinks at Yahoo! It's very easy to lose site of the forest when there are so many social media trees everywhere you look. Recall that MySpace was the logical heir to the online profile/social network world pioneered by Geocities, Tripod, and Angelfire. Socialmention.com is basically a social search engine, if the business name is unique it can be a good option. You can also set up various searches from Google, Twitter, etc and run the RSS feeds from each search through Yahoo Pipes and have the resulting feed delivered to your inbox or RSS reader to monitor ongoing.
