In February of 2011, Google released the Panda update that took rankings away from websites with low-quality content and sites with more advertising than content. Links can do this regardless of whether or not they contain the “nofollow” attribute, contain redirects, come from a site with a high PageRank , and so on.

Adding Content to Your Site As I wrote in my post on How to Dominate Google , search engines generally tend to follow people. Long-tail Automation To really get a site going I like to add a lot of content to it. I outsource this process and while you certainly don’t have to produce that much content, I do find that it helps.

Links from other sites to your site are basically a ‘vote’ that tell search engines you are trusted and you are a good resource for whatever your content is about. Write Awesome Content A few years ago you could write an awesome post and it would receive hundreds of links. Google lets you find awesome websites.
