The best way to get back-links is to create valuable content; create it and they will link! Yet another proven method is to submit your website URL to web-directories with decent Google page rank, ex: Yahoo and D’moz. Create a list of reputable directories (categorize paid and free ). Bookmark them for later use.

Your content strategy alone isn’t enough when it comes to ranking higher in search. Content is still incredibly important, but there’s a not-so-new beast called social media that many business are still neglecting and missing out on entirely. What Google does understand are links coming from reputable sources. Need proof?

In February of 2011, Google released the Panda update that took rankings away from websites with low-quality content and sites with more advertising than content. Links can do this regardless of whether or not they contain the “nofollow” attribute, contain redirects, come from a site with a high PageRank , and so on.

To its credit, Google also penalized its own Japan division who used the pay per post tactic in an attempt to compete against Yahoo. Bloggers who are compensated can use the “nofollow&# tag within their outbound links to keep those links from being tagged by Google as paid content.
