Social media has revolutionised how we search for our content. Google is still very powerful, people read blogs, watch YouTube, use Twitter and social bookmarking sites to find their content. I strongly recommend using a pinging program like Ping.FM One of the easiest ways to develop a community is create a Facebook fan page.

There are several other options, such as Flickr, Tumblr, WordPress, Blogger, etc… even Ping.fm. It really is a community. I think what delights me most about Amplify is that there really is a community sense to it. The first is that I use Amplify for different content than I blog about.

It is amazing the kind of relationship you can build with your community simply by following and listening to your readers. Go beyond just content contribution and contribute to the overall well being of the blog by helping promote other authors as well by following lists created specifically with blog members, contributors, supporters, etc.

After using both Plurk and Twitter pretty heavily, I’ve come to the conclusion that Plurk is best at its features for community-building, whereas Twitter succeeds more with its interface that bolsters information-sharing.
