I teach classes on social media monitoring – computer classes – and the students set up iGoogle to find and monitor Media, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, images, key influencers, keywords, CEO and brand mentions and so on. I was thinking Netvibes but wondered if you have another option? Really grumpy !

First, it assumes that the tweets of the top bloggers are as interesting as the their blog posts, never mind whether the blog posts are that interesting. And if I didn’t, I would set up Google Reader or a NetVibes page with Twitter and blog RSS feeds from only the top bloggers that interest me.

Some of the biggest news in the blogging world over the last week was without a doubt Google’s announcement that on June 1st, they’re closing Google Reader. Paraphrasing their own words, the usage of Reader is smaller than ever, and Google want to focus on fewer products. ProBlogger: 94,647.

When people use it instead of email to schedule meetings, it really saves time. But I should try it.
