Since FriendFeed aggregates numerous social networks, it can give you a lot more information about its users, especially with regards to how and when they engage with online content. FriendFeed isn’t just an aggregator, though. That is, of course, if your friends are using Twitter. It’s also a conversation medium.

The reason is that people didn’t have aggregate power: they were individual voices that a news channel or a company can choose to ignore. Facebook, Myspace etc are just the start. Microformats – Web content will have more machine-readable markup and UGC (like reviews) will be aggregated into larger sites/services.

But the way that Facebook’s Beacon is setting cookies and sending my very specific online behavior (at selected sites) back to it’s databases not in the aggregate but assigned to my personal data, is going too far. There are so many socnets and microblogging/status update services out there. Let’s keep at it folks.

Take MySpace for example, they rank their blog postings daily like a billboard chart. It still seems when you check the upcoming stories it is still the same people. Why is Digg allowing third-party sites to aggregate the statistics? I can’t say I particularly welcome it, as that whole mentality pushed me away entirely.
