Back when the ProBlogger book came out I would be asked “ What is the difference between a wiki and a blog? ”, but now people ask “ What is the difference between blogs and websites/niche sites? ” This makes the distinction between a blog and a wiki easy to detect, it makes it harder to tell the difference between a blog and a niche website.

While there are many platforms to choose from, I always suggest that if your purpose for blogging is anything related to branding, business, or making money online, then you want to go with WordPress on your own domain. The traffic trends for each platform’s site speak for themselves. Also recommended by WordPress.org.

One of the first ones is the platform (a.k.a. The answer to choosing a platform is best handled by considering the answer(s) to these two questions: What is the purpose of my blog? You could almost skip the aspect of setting up the layout of the blog and just start posting, going with the default blog template provided by Tumblr.

Look at Boring Stats — and Make Them Interesting This has a little to do with the Social Media platforms, but mostly with analytics. A Community Manager who does use social platforms needs to be able to track its effectiveness in… um… getting people through the door. Keep your campaigns consistent.

In order to do well when marketing, one should have tactical knowledge and ideally, first-hand experience of the specific social media platform. There are other times when marketers may have to launch a multi-platform outreach campaign. 1) understanding the technology / platform / service and 2) understanding the brand.

Question… Does any platform allow you to update multiple facebook fan pages from one dashboard?

Too bad it’s not a wiki; think it could become a defining guide. To me there is no right way to use twitter, it just always seems to be the wrong platform for anything other than what one ate that day and who did what when.
