You spell the difference between quick hit message distribution mentality and deploying social media as a brand relationship building tool. I don't think that the secretary needs to know every tool, channel and strategy that the firm uses but she does need to know the difference between a Facebook page or profile.

I don't see FB rendering the web site obsolete as much as a myriad of well integrated social tools replacing the traditional web site. A well-designed and populated blog (such as yours) partnered with well-planned use of social tools can replace a web site in a heartbeat today (if done properly). It is a tool.
