Well, as my recent blog posts have shown, I don’t follow the Google guidelines like I used to. If you don’t read the rest of this very long post then let me summarise it as this: Google is failing to enforce their guidelines on a huge scale, especially when it comes to big brands. Today I’ll do the same. Not a chance.

I have to say that I agree with Barry’s conclusion in his post that I do believe Google would give Retail Me Not a penalty, but then side with his commenters in that it would purely be for public display, and it’s something that would quickly be dealt with and revoked if it were to ever happen. More Proof that Widget Spam Works.

The types of links here include things like irrelevant blog comments, forum profile pages, social bookmarking links and very often from non-English Blogspot blogs. It was an interesting comment from someone who recently emailed me to thank me for the transparency I share in this space, but not one that I agree with. Whether you agree with Google Guidelines or not, Blackhat surely leads you to think that what people are doing would break the law. A network can keep you ahead of the curve.

Whether or not an idea fits perfectly within Google’s guidelines. But the challenge really shows and the end result is something I can only describe as Google search results not being fair based on the guidelines they set. Often, I feel like we have to do the exact same thing when it comes to SEO. I genuinely believe that.
