Why Alps Bethneck is 5 Years Old

Ari Herzog

This is a guest blog post by Stephen Black. This is his story. 2005: Flickr. Do I want to treat Flickr as a serious base for showcasing my photographic works? Or, do I want to use it as a base for experimentation? Ask Chiaki Williams. 2007: Facebook. Do I really want my email addresses and more to be in the hands of some Ivy league whiz kid? No! I scramble my name and Alps Bethneck is born.

How Google Celebrated My Birthday

Ari Herzog

Google is fond of drawing doodles for momentous occasions. Every day when you visit the Google homepage you see the hand-drawn or animated creation above the search box. They are fun to see and, when you click them, you can learn more about the person or occasion celebrated. Today is my birthday. The personalized doodle was announced in October 2010.

How This Blog Can Double Its Readership

Less than 24 hours later, I realized I needed to change it again.

Sept 11 is Back

Ari Herzog

Read about where I was when an airplane was crashed into the World Trade Center. Watch the original and unedited TV footage. Learn why the FBI saw my name on their terrorist list. And, rediscover the box.

90 Percent of Small Business Use Social Media

Ari Herzog

A survey of 600 small business owners across the United States indicates that 90% are actively engaged in social networking sites and 74% perceive social networking as valuable — if not more valuable — than networking in-person. When 42% of owners say that 25% of new customers discovered them through sites such as Facebook and Foursquare, it is crucial that your business is online and social.
