It was mostly a read-only API, with, eventually, the ability to create widgets that could be embedded as apps on a person's Wall - a new feature of Facebook at the time. I'd guess we will - OpenSocial supports this and much of Google+'s current platform bases on OpenSocial standards.

What I discovered however is that Blogger, while simple on the surface, has some very developer-friendly features that to me, seemed even easier to deal with than my custom-hosted Wordpress solution.
