I adore the ease of creating a blog with Google’s Blogger (or Blogspot) platform — which AriWriter once was before migrating to WordPress in the fall of 2008 — but the commenting system is not user friendly. Enter Disqus. While I’m not a fan of Disqus on WordPress blogs, I welcome them on Blogspot blogs.

Asked to add a comment quickly on a blog such as this with the built-in WordPress commenting system, you can easily step up to the opportunity. I also grew frustrated with repetitive actions that were necessary on both the plugin’s dashboard and on the WordPress dashboard. Turning this setting on in WordPress allows readers to respond directly to each other and not just show up as the most recent comment. Whether it is the native WordPress system or a third party client like DISQUS , Livefyre , Echo or Intense Debate (my favorite), you need to choose the best system that fosters community.

More than two months since Livefyre launched on this blog and replaced the vanilla WordPress commenting system with a more social interface, metrics indicate the number of visitors has essentially remained the same — but the average time you spent on this blog has drastically decreased. While many bloggers prefer to stick with their native comments system, whether it’s WordPress, Blogger or any other of the popular platforms, others are preferring to use third-party systems like Disqus , IntenseDebate and Livefyre , amongst others. So are there any reasons why you wouldn’t want to use the standard set-up?
