Social media connections are those I know through a variety of online forums, the blogosphere, Twitter, and the like (but I generally don’t befriend someone immediately; I still give it time). By that I mean not only the social voting sites like Digg, Reddit, etc, but also on the social networks (Facebook, MySpace, etc), social communication tools (Twitter, Pownce, Seesmic, etc.), Creating sites on Facebook and MySpace are not either. Nice collection of different perspectives from across the blogosphere.

You need to network with like minded individuals and build relationships with people in the blogosphere so that you ultimately get inbound links, comments, and visibility. Whenever I have friends looking to enter teh blogosphere, I always remind them that the internet has an impressively long memory, so be careful what you put out there.
