Social media was still being called Web 2.0, As the meeting closed, our then Vice President of Public Relations tossed the June 2, 2008 edition of BusinessWeek at me with Stephen Baker’s cover story entitled Beyond Blogs which focused on Twitter. but in our weekly PR team meeting, social media nearly hit me in the head.

Shortly into my tenure, my then VP Manya Chait tossed a Businessweek at me with an article entitled Beyond Blogs and asked me to figure out this new thing that wowed the crowds at SXSW called Twitter (believe it or not, I still have the issue and plan on framing it). It also taught me to ask for forgiveness as opposed to permission.

A lesson in what not to do in social media from Barack Obama

His use of technology was instrumental in his campaign, and it is looked at as the blueprint for how campaigns should be run in the Web 2.0 As his Twitter profile notes, only Tweets marked BO are coming directly from the Commander in Chief. Obama’s Twitter account was more of a news resource than call to action for his agenda.
