Believe me, it’s difficult to resist the temptation to check your Facebook feed, especially when you have your phone out to search Google Maps for the closest coffee shop. We use them for online boarding passes, restaurant locators, maps/directions to popular tourist destinations, and leveraging the phone for GPS.

Most people just stare at the map of their GPS system and wait for the voice commands to bark out their next turn. I never tagged myself as an analytics jockey, but switching over to the trip data screen of my GPS turned the long drive into both a game and fascinating collection of data. For all to see. Now, I’m not suggesting Foursquare will ever approach Twitter’s level of ubiquity, much less Facebook’s. Because Foursquare makes very little sense unless you’re in a physical location like a store, restaurant, etc. At least it is for me.
