List yourself in Twitter directories. Directories are an easy source of followers and many offer the capability to list yourself based on your interests. Provide interesting content! People automatically assume that re-tweeted users are users who provide quality content and are more likely to follow you as a result.

Write related content without being overly promotional. Add your blog to directories, e.g. Alltop.com, BlogCatalog.com, Technorati.com. Write a headline that captures one’s attention, inspires further reading, and explains in a sentence what they’ll get in return from reading it. We hate direct mail. Be remarkable.
