In collaboration with Chris and a few other team members, we pitched the idea to our leadership as a low-cost, low-resource opportunity to network, collaborate on some of the tough issues facing our team, learn from other members of the team, and have an opportunity to get involved with the rest of the team beyond their individual project teams.

They issued memos to their users telling them that this collaborative tool that they’ve all been clamoring for is now available. That’s why I love a tool like Yammer. As you might imagine, neither of these conclusions bode well for the long-term health of a virtual community behind the firewall. Include the link to your content in your team newsletters, meeting agendas/minutes, email signatures, briefings, Yammer messages, and any other communications vehicles you use. Cross-promote.

I say: wait until Plurk gets better and keep waiting for Twitter to fix its scaling issues. Then, everyone will go to his/her respective home(s) on the web.
