With Twitter being so incredibly large and vast, there are different types of mini-communities. I started following people who wrote or commented on the SEO blogs to develop my own Twitter community. Communicating and getting to know people is WAY more important to me than impressing anyone or becoming known as an expert resource.

Add an avatar and a bio at the minimum. I’m not connected to the LinkedIn individual who spammed me, but he still took the liberty to use my email address for his personal gain in a completely unsolicited fashion. Social news is about reciprocal relationships. FriendFeed is a service but it’s also a community.
