It was originally part of a class wiki. PLEs are meant to simplify managing these artefacts, creating meaning through aggregation, linking and metadata tagging (eg comments, keywords). Examples include YouOS , 30Boxes and NetVibes. A simple example is the integration of weblog with an embedded online calendar.
