Texts From Dad Delivers SMS Dad Jokes From Dads Around The World

This article is more than 3 years old.

There are tons of dad joke apps out there. There are tons of websites posting dad jokes, especially for Father's Day. But maybe you don't want all that hassle. Maybe you just want some random dad joke from a random dad to show up on your phone via SMS once a day. Then you'll probably want to sign up for Texts From Dad.

Naturally, it's not just dads delivering dad jokes these days. Everyone has learned the art of dropping the odd, irreverent and generally disjointed dad joke on the group to end a conversation dead in its tracks. Because that's the magic of a truly well placed and timed dad joke, it causes everyone in the room to stop, roll their eyes and reset their brains. The dad joke is like the Velcro of interpersonal relationships.

Texts From Dad has a couple quirks that set it apart from the run-of-the-mill dad joke app. It delivers one dad joke per day to everyone on the list via SMS (not a group text, individual texts). These jokes are culled from submissions submissions on the site, submitted by dads (or dad-proxies or moms or gender-neutral parents or cheeky teens) from around the world. The cream of the wheat is pulled from the stack and sent out daily. It'll be interesting to read how dad jokes translate across cultures and borders. We're all just one big dad joke anyway.

And then there is a charitable pandemic angle as the donate button on Texts From Dad delivers 100% of any and all profits (subtracting operating costs) to Good+Foundation, a non-profit helping low-income families struggling during the pandemic. The pandemic has sparked plenty of creativity within many of us, and it was that downtime that Texts From Dad came to fruition.

"Texts From Dad was an idea that arose during the pandemic, when silly texts from our dads made us feel happier and more connected," said co-creator, entrepreneur and tomfoolery expert Wiz and co-creator and designer/cartoonist Yael Hendel. "We wanted to be able to create a platform to share dad humor with everyone, no matter the role their own dad plays, played, or doesn’t play in their life. We encourage everyone to submit their dad’s best funnies to give each dad du jour their moment of fame."

We all need a few more dad jokes in our lives, certainly with everything that's going on in the world right now. Without deeper political commentary on all of that, dad jokes are universal. There is no one that is not amused by an awkward, sigh-inducing dad jokes and getting them via SMS is probably the most concise way to both enjoy them and lament their existence.
