Way back in August 2010, the social news website Digg.com updated to version 4 – more or less sealing its doom. This switch to corporate interests isn’t anything new for social media sites; Twitter, Facebook, and others have made changes over the years that do more to make money than they do to satisfy the user. In the past few weeks, however, even Digg’s other top users are seeing that Digg is becoming more difficult of a social news site to enjoy, and after stepping away from Digg for awhile, I have some thoughts and reflections on how it was and possibly how it should be. Reddit and Mixx , on the other hand, live on a karma system. Social media isn’t going away, but this example shows that some systems just happen to work better than others.

It’s about time that I bring the dialogue here since it’s evident that I’m already starting to grow fond of the brand new social network. The Early Adopter Appeal Mixx is a new social news site that went into private beta a mere two months ago. Already, however, it’s gaining momentum among “Digg refugees&# and folks who don’t feel comfortable on other social networks. Social media involves people who work together, not alone.
