I’m sure there are examples on the other side of this, but thriving communities on B2C or B2B have large populations of lurkers that are largely there for transactions (they want an answer, knowledge, expertise, learning, examples, etc) and don’t really engage in the community itself. StumbleUpon. Social Web. del.icio.us.

That something could be that they are connected everywhere with 50 different social accounts—Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Google, Yahoo Buzz, Reddit, Stumbleupon, LinkedIn, etc. The Moral Compass/Preacher, The Emotion Generator, The Mommy Blogger, The Novelist, The Fake, The Mystery, The Lurker… Which breeds did I miss?

With the introduction of Twitter and sites like StumbleUpon, people are more inclined to ’share’ sites, rather than link to them from their own blogs.
