Forum Marketing – OK, I’m being a little bit misleading here. Today’s forums are 1991s bulletin boards. Still, those old bulletin boards were a lot like forums. Today’s forums are a bit more sophisticated and have rules in place to control spam, but they are still effective marketing venues.

Pay per click ads. Article directories (yes, they still work). Knol pages. Guest blogging. Etsy, if you are a crafter. Niche directories. Foursquare. YellowPages.com, Yelp, and other online city directories. Google Places and Bing Maps. iPhone apps. Mobile websites.

A free promotion in one forum may bring hundreds or even thousands of downloads, which distribute your message to more audience. Visit forums regularly. By being a forum regular, and by contributing back, you will be able to establish your expertise and drive traffic back to your site. Some forums also accept on-topic articles.

This affected anyone who used article marketing as a way to build links and drive traffic to their websites, since article networks were hit the hardest , though some—like HubPages— regained their rankings in subsequent updates. Complete your social network and forum profiles. Don’t leave them without a link to click on!

Create a hub about your blog on HubPages. Register with few good niche-related forums and use your signature to place links pointing to your blog. Use your blog’s name as your username on forums, social networking sites, and other places like YahooAnswers. Participate in discussions and contribute as much as you can.

Submit articles to article publishing sites like Ezine, Hubpages, etc. Visit popular industry forums, blogs etc and comment (create a Gravatar linked to your company email first). Submit website to several (50+) paid and free directories (start with Yahoo Local, Google Places, Yelp Business Pages etc).
