Earthquake: Canadians Turn to Social Media Instead of Diving for Cover

Dave Fleet

Yesterday afternoon at 1:41pm EDT, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook Quebec and Ontario and it looks like people ran to Twitter instead of diving for cover. Once again, social media beat traditional media to the punch (as if this is news nowadays), although mainstream outlets were quick to report the news shortly thereafter. We did a little research on social media activity regarding the earthquake using Radian6.

Why are companies allowing you to operate without a net in social media?

Direct Marketing Observations

And yet it’s happening, alot! According to a May 2010 study by Digital Brand Expressions , 59% of social marketers are operating “without a game plan.” How is that possible? I’m not sure who is at more fault here, the marketer or the company they work for? I would understand that a small number might not do this, but half? Six out of Ten are just creating Facebook, Youtube and Twitter profiles?

The Abundant Water Project

Janet Fouts

There are some really wonderful nonprofits out there that work to develop water resources in places where water is scarce. But what about when there is water all around but none that’s safe to drink? This is what’s happening in Southeast Asian countries. Sure there’s water but it’s not safe water. Top that with limited funds and resources for filtering systems or water purification plants and you’ve got a lot of sick families.
