Tomorrow is election day in the United States, a day of collective anxiety no matter which side of the political aisle you reside. For decades this nation has been careening toward a political reckoning and it's finally upon us.
We can find some solace in early voting numbers, as it appears this country is more eager and willing to vote this time. For a more specific segmentation of that engagement, we turn to porn site xHamster and its internal polling of porn viewers.
Because this is America and it wouldn't be a proper election week without a porn site getting in on the action.
Porn voters are very engaged politically. That's the title of xHamster's report (SFW link) and it's backed up by some data. Last weekend xHamster surveyed over 6,000 of its users, all U.S. based and of eligible voting age. 88% of them said they have voted or plan to vote on election day. xHamster had recently delved into the correlation of porn and politics, revealing the favorite porn of all spectrums of political alignment. This is a bit less complex.
What it shows is what we're seeing. Nonvoters were a huge issue in 2016 and helped to land us where we are now. This year, we've seen more than 20% of the early vote come from people who didn't vote in 2016. That's huge. Regardless of whom you are voting for, you should always vote. It's not only your right, but your responsibility. If you choose to do so because pressured by a porn site, so be it.
24% of the visitors surveyed on xHamster defined themselves as conservative, with 25% identifying as liberal or progressive. The rest fell somewhere in between. Of the conservative and liberal voters, both groups overwhelmingly said they planned to vote, coming in at 95.8% and 95.2% respectively. Along with the vote, users were also queried on which porn categories are their favorites. The big winner here was MILF, hitting 32.9% with the right, 25.7% with centrists and 23.2% with leftists.
There is also a breakdown of porn fans of specific categories and if they plan to vote. It's all good news. No matter what type of porn is their favorite, they still plan on voting in high numbers. It just shows that porn viewers are an engaged voting demographic, no matter where they fall on the political spectrum.
So what does all this tell us? It tells us that there is a rippling of nervousness tearing through this country as to what comes next. Porn ain't worried based on its user base, but there are so many adjacent social issues (the rights of sex workers for example) that it should exhibit some concern as an industry. No matter what the on-site data reveals, there is at least one political party who publicly does not support what it itself does behind closed doors.
