YouTube Apps Are Currently Crashing For Thousands Of Users

Following

No; it’s not just you: thousands of reports are flooding in, complaining of repeated crashes when trying to access YouTube using iPhones and iPads.

Google has acknowledged an issue affecting iOS devices and is already working on a fix. However, a much smaller number of Android and desktop browser users are also reporting problems accessing videos hosted on the site.

iOS users affected by the bug are suffering persistent crashes after 20-30 seconds of viewing. Restarting the device, or turning it off and back on, does not appear to fix the problem.

Error reports started to spike at around 9am PT, according to the real-time status tracker Downdetector, reaching just under 8,000 by the time of writing. However, YouTube itself isn’t down — The vast majority of problems originate from app users (73%), with just 9% originating from those accessing the service via a browser.

If you’re currently affected by the issue, you may find success by using a browser instead of the app. If that doesn’t work for you, you’ll just have to old tight and wait for Google to fix the problem.
