In perhaps one of my most controversial articles (unintentionally), I wrote a week or two ago about how both Twitter and Facebook both quietly removed RSS from user accounts and Pages. This means that it's worth investing more time and energy into APIs over feeds. Of course, he had a point.

Though niches that have more web savvy audiences like marketing or technology are more likely to be affected, this is going to impact anyone who has built up their RSS readership. Also, doing it now means you can alert them again in the future with enough of a gap to remind them without annoying people who don’t subscribe via RSS.

There are a lot of blogs out there claiming, "RSS is dead." "RSS RSS isn't dead." Others, I discover through FB and Twitter posts. David Terry said, "I still use RSS, but not nearly as much as in the past. Is RSS dead? Of course not, and I would debate anyone who suggests it is. Don't just say "RSS is dead".

Personally, I use a combination of Google Alerts and RSS Feeds to find news, then read some of the articles during the show, including clips from Instagram spokespeople if available, then explain why that news article is relevant to growing an audience on Instagram. You can, of course, start with just the voice memo app on your phone.
