Avoid posting links on random or affiliated websites rather nofollow the link or remove them. On one hand Link directories are an effective solution for generating quality back links but postings on insignificant directories is considered spam and should be removed at the earliest.

Just as low-level article directories (ezinearticles, articlesbase, and others) got hurt by Google’s Panda Update in 2013, I predict that Google will hurt sites abusing guest blogging in 2013. But when SEO companies start to abuse any link building tactic, you need a preventative plan in place because an update from Google will be coming.

Nofollow links to sites with which you don’t want/need to share link equity. There are several ways to noindex a page: modify your robots.txt file by adding Disallow: /example-directory/example-page.html, add <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex”> to the page header, or use a WordPress plugin.

Directory Submissions By nature, directory links are of a very poor quality. Sometimes I’ll also pay $100 or so to BOTW.org which is a human-filtered directory which can give me some great link juice. As soon as I’m cached in this directory I find my rankings to increase almost instantly. This is gold.
