If I wanted to accomodate my entire community, that would be another $30 per year. Wordpress has plugins, but Google uses the standardized OpenSocial API , along with Google Gadgets , to provide an interface to Widgets and other features within the blog. Instantaneous RSS updates. To remove ads, that would be $30 per year.

I scan 275 RSS feeds in Google Reader and I use dozens of bookmarklets and shortcuts to help me manage it all. Note that the Google Toolbar automatically inserts the source URL. You get short codes, widgets and metrics. Pretty Link Lite : Every blog post has a long URL that includes the year, month and key words. Sometimes it’s also nice to have a short (and readable) URL to share in an email. I’m talking about a shorter version of the URL to a post on my domain.

If you see that a certain site is sending a lot of RSS subscribers, you can work to get more traffic from that source. You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers.

Track things like audience/community sentiment (positive/negative) if you want to map effort to results. Pay attention to which widgets you use in your sidebar. Build RSS outposts on Facebook. Add Flog Blog, and several other RSS tools. Remember that community and marketplace are two different things.
