Granted, I don’t sell ad units, but I still use it for promoting my own products. You get short codes, widgets and metrics. Vimeo : Sure, I could use YouTube. But my use of video these days is largely for my private community, so I want more control of branding and private embedding.

Usually most people use social media to promote their website, product, or business that they are generating income from. If you don’t want to change the backend though, you can simply use a widget for your category dropdown and change the name to topics, that way it displays on the sidebar as such.
