I like to focus on building search engine traffic to my sites because once you have rankings you can usually sustain them with little effort and the traffic they send is very targeted. Some success is from sites I purchased which were ranking on the first few pages of Google and I built some great links to get them on the first page.

You could simply buy directory links, sponsor blog posts, and even have Wordpress themes developed which included a link to your site in the footer. The top results for most keyphrases are either a Wikipedia page, a site that is very focused around community, or a clear leader in an industry.

If I recommend a site that people don’t get value from, you guys will start to lose trust in the links I share. It’s pretty much a waste of time trying to get a cooking blog to link to your marketing website, and also a waste of time trying to get them to link to your guide on how to make toast, even if you do run a cooking site.

Crazy Egg allows you to see the most popular areas of your website pages and find out where visitors from different sources are clicking on your site. If you see that a certain site is sending a lot of RSS subscribers, you can work to get more traffic from that source. That way I knew when my sites had moved.
