I have been using Netvibes for more than a year now and similarly to the use case in the presentation I have tailored my start page to fulfill my needs in certain contexts (trips, translation tools, tech news, community and collaboration). Mir has also beautifully addressed on the community aspects of drupal and using Drupal as a CMS for websites. Today Noel, a renowned Drupaler rejoices when he meets fellow folks from the community. Noel also addressed the value of tools like Twitter, Paypal and some more.

Track things like audience/community sentiment (positive/negative) if you want to map effort to results. Get a Wordpress.com account for its OpenID benefits. Use social networks respectfully to share the best of your content, in a community-appropriate setting. Remember that community and marketplace are two different things.
