My general recommendation is to use the free version until you start seeing uptake by the community. Secure your domains. Blogs, books, newspapers, magazines, tweets, etc. domain name. online community. Do the hard work of figuring out if a hosted solution is best for you. Design matters. Read first.

Building that community early on was very powerful. To that tip there of checking your domain name that it’s on automatic renew, please double check that. I’ve got a regular writing gig with a magazine in Margaret River, that’s been going for two or three years now. But it didn’t save me from some early mistakes.

The difference is that it may be a lot harder, and take a while longer, to find those 5,000 people and introduce them to your community. Would you see anything about the industry on a magazine stand. This is a really interesting question, especially for people who are managing communities that are attached to larger brands.
