June 30: Mashable Social Media Day #SMDay Sydney

Join Mashable in celebrating Social Media Day. Well actually they will be in the States have a little snooze no doubt, but we’ll be celebrating it here. Then after we climb into our jimjams and head to lullaby land, they will be partying on. Still, it’s the thought that counts. Wednesday June 30th is global social media day. Celebrating all things social and media-ish. Social Media Day from Mashable:

As far as we know, there is no official Social Media Day. But we do think there should be one. So we invite you to celebrate the revolution of media becoming a social dialogue by attending or organizing a Social Media Day meetup in your area on June 30. What better way to celebrate social media than connecting with other enthusiasts in your area?

On Wednesday, June 30, we’ll be organizing meetups in cities where we have staff using Meetup Everywhere. So come join us for drinks in New York City or San Francisco or anywhere. Because we can’t be everywhere, we encourage you to attend or organize a meetup in your community using our Meetup Everywhere page (or by creating a meetup using the widget below).

Social media has changed our lives. It has not only changed the way we communicate, but the way we connect with one another, consume our news, conduct our work, organize our lives, and much more. So why not celebrate?

There is a lot of flexibility in what exactly a meetup can consist of. Some groups are organizing social networking hours at their local venues, while others are hosting speakers or panels. We want to give you the flexibility to tailor your meetup to what you think best suits your social community.

Here are all the different ways you can participate (which we will update as they develop):

This morning there were 3 on the list at Meetup. This afternoon 15. How many do you reckon there will be by June 30th?

Venue in City, Sydney?

I was thinking the Sydney Opera House. Kerry Packer’s send off cost the government $20,000 – I reckon we can get it a bit cheaper. Too ambitious? Well if there’s 15 of us, how about noodles and beer at my place? what do YOU think?

Yes of course. They pay for the noodles and beer. And Opera Houses. Know any sponsors that won’t go bankrupt (post GFC) by throwing down some beer and noodles?

Dress Code for Sydney social media day?

I’m thinking winter – fur coats (skin the neighbours yappy poodle and wear that, to be tres social media fashionista) Mashable want photos and videos, so we should show them what winter looks like in the Southern Hemisphere. Ski masks allowed (not to be accompanied by machine guns). Wellington boots get extra points.

Purpose

Can you justify yet another night of boozing in the name of social media? Should we have a presentation. I vote for case studies on food and alcohol in social media. 10 minutes each for Fosters, Vodka, some Noodle place,  whatever to tell us about their fabbo social media campaigns while plying us with booze. Skol! Skol!
