If you use Twitter regularly, you’d see that it wins as a social news site that provides instantaneous news — at least of that caliber. As Chris Garrett explains in his post, if you follow numerous feed bots, you can get the news all the time. The right news will hit the front page of Digg quickly.

What functionalities do you think WordPress, vBulletin, and other common platforms need to be able to better develop communities? Beyond the core of people who want to demonstrate their expertise in a niche by blogging, will blogging continue to grow, or will community-oriented sites become more popular?

Many people found the research interesting, but a number of people commented that the social networks probably shouldn’t be grouped together. In comparison, here’s another anomaly (for its time). This is not a regular practice on the social news giant, and unfortunately, that is probably the biggest thing causing its downfall. There was only one occasion when the users were able to make a lasting impression on the social news site.

That’s not really convincing social proof. Then, when you’re joining a community for the first time, you’ll need to study the users and slowly build relationships with them. This is especially true of other social networks, especially ones where you were originally untrusted.

After using both closely, the comparison to Twitter shouldn’t even be the case. When it comes to a basis of comparison, nested conversations are probably the only aspect of Plurk that has brought it much success (save for the lack of downtime, though it does suffer some quirks here and there). You may have more than one.
