Every time I tell someone I’m a Community Manager , I get a varied response. &# That last one might be the most honest of the three, since asking a Community Manager whether they tweet for a living is like asking a construction worker if they cat-call for a living, or a doctor if he asks people to say “ah!&# for a living.

I know that different companies provide different amounts of historical data at the start of the campaign (another item I should have included – may need to do a follow up on this on my own blog later on as I get all this great feedback on items to include!) Hope that helps!

Be it MySpace or Facebook or whatever network works for your target demographic, companies and individuals interested in maintaining their personal brand need to establish and maintain a presence on social networks - especially if youre looking to connect with the younger crowd. Extra extra credit would be the use of Yahoo!

So if your boss calls you up and asks you how many times The New York Times used the name of your company in a headline, you can easily give him or her an answer. Thanks for the very useful overview Steve. If you want to share or publish one of the filtered feeds, run it though FeedBurner to obfuscate any Google or Yahoo account info.

I use networking as a very broad term which chould include creating connections with bloggers, finding companies who can help you to get your offering out there and utilising other areas of social media to get eyeballs on your creation. Was ranking first in Yahoo, now 11. This is very popular in the UK. Yes and no.
