A platform should have an extensibility model, a content management model, a user profiling/membership model, a rating/reputation system (for content and authors), and registration system, etc, etc, etc…you get the idea. I spent a long time in a very large brand. I think the same is true for the bevy of social tools.

Most recently, the site launched a co-branded version of their service for Best Buy. featurelist.org is very similar to IdeaScale, but more public, not branded, and focused on software. We tried to figure out how to use some of these applications to generate unique content when building a travel portal and failed miserably.
