Submit all company domains to free and paid directories and local search directories. Include negative keywords.

There were no search engines and directories were fairly small and specialized. We’ll put the odd blog in our blogroll, if we even have one. As the search engines get smarter, and the value of comment links, forum links, and social media links drops, the value of in-content links (i.e. There was no central starting point.

Directories – quality is again the issue when it comes to directories. There are thousands of directories online now, and most are poor quality. Ironically, higher quality directories that charge for a listing have escaped Google’s attention. Look for heavily moderated forums that don’t tolerate spam.
