I migrated my clients from Feedburner some time ago because the service was getting a little sketchy. But I never really got around to updating my own blogs until yesterday, when I realized two of them were no longer working. I had a little over 10,000 subscribers and yesterday Feedburner was reporting that at a big fat 0. Feedburner’s support has gone *poof*.

It’s particularly worrying in some areas, where companies of the size and scale of Google have effectively closed out the market, particularly in terms of RSS syndication with Feedburner and RSS reading with Google Reader. My blog grew by leaps and bounds in 2011. But it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t made a few smart investments in my blog—investments, you could say, in my success. As problogger.net reported earlier this year , November is traditionally National Novel Writing Month ( NaNoWriMo ) and National Blog Posting Month ( NaBloPoMo ). Is your blogging routine as old and worn as your favorite pair of slippers? I see the comfort this can provide, and usually prescribe to the method, but on the other hand might this negate a thing blogging is often known for—the spirit of experimentalism? Although I started publicly blogging at TheWayoftheWeb on a blogspot account back in 2006, it was only in 2008 that I switched to WordPress and installed my current Google Analytics account, so May 1 is kind of an anniversary. Technically I really started blogging back in about 1999 with a Homestead website, but that didn’t progress further than some horrific design decisions and a couple of extremely half-hearted business ideas, such as a database of pub reviews (I still occasionally wonder how much revenue the likes of FancyAPint make!). Blogging dying? Buffer.
