Location-based services — applications that “know” where you are and can use that information to connect you with people, places and things — are one of the hot new classes of social media applications. Foursquare, for example, runs only on iPhone and Android, though other versions are under development. Brightkite.

And Yelp is an interesting player in this market, boasting a huge user base (huge by Foursquare standards) that it brought into the location-based world with an iPhone app earlier this year. The Yelp iPhone app alone had around 1.25 Tags: Social Media Brightkite check-in check.in Wagers anyone? *

I believe the last application (not being an actual game) to come out of this triangle that has turned big is LBS applications like Foursquare and Gowalla , with a call for human interaction, a game design to win mayor ships, badges etc – and all powered through your mobile. MingleBird – a mobile socializing application.

You can use FTP to create a custom directory for your badges or you can also use the image up-loader that comes with your blog site. This is what you would place in your Event’s Badges page (assuming you replace the appropriate URLs and file names as outlined above: Step 5. See the PodCamp Hawaii Badges page for examples.
