The millennials and their millennial means of communication have brought to the fore a new avatar of social media in the face of marketing through the Google Adwords and Sponsored ads which is beneficial both for the brand and the consumers. This new avatar of social media is called Social Media Marketing.

Granted, some companies use MySpace quite efficiently , but I feel that it targets a different demographic. Twitter, Pownce, and other “microblogging&# platforms really don’t fit in the type of social networks that I intend to illustrate here. I just don’t think there’s a lot to do with it.

If you are AT&T and your avatar was the face of your CEO, you’re doing it wrong. People are following AT&T because they care about AT&T, not about some no-name behind the company. If you are building your *personal* brand, by all means, use your avatar (and face!). Yes, I did just say that.
