Step Four: Detach Yourself from Feedburner. It’s a shame that the efforts of whoever built Please Don’t Kill Feedburner don’t seem to be paying off, as I really think the service is on its last legs. That’s soon going to change though with the huge losses in subscriber counts coming from the closure of Reader.

I uploaded my custom feed to my Freelance Writing Portfolio domain since it does not have an active blog feed to compete with. Also, be sure your file name does not include the word feed (and especially not feed.xml ) as that and or a folder named feed might compete with your main blog’s feed.

Feedburner is so erratic that I just can’t take it that seriously anymore. It’s great to see the site continues to thrive even when I’m not as active as I could be. If you’re reading this in a feed reader or inbox, thanks for subscribing! Subscriber Stats. Personal Update.

June was quite a quiet month in terms of updates and activity on other sites. Subscriber Stats I really don’t know if I should continue reporting on Feedburner as the count is just far too erratic. Every day the figure fluctuates by thousands of readers, going as low as 4,000 to as high as 12,000. It really helps us.

What’s difficult to reconcile is the loss of various features which are obviously and explicitly an attempt to shoehorn users into more activity on Google+, which have a number of negative effects for individuals and businesses. Individuals can no longer have a basic sharing and following network within Google Reader.
