Twitter New Profile Redesign 2014

It seems I have been writing a lot of social media “update” blogs recently:  Linkedin Update: Linkedin Products & Services Page To Be Removed and Facebook Update: New Layout for Business Pages.

Yes, now Twitter started rolling out its new profile redesign on Tuesday April 8th. It’s rolling out slowly with celebrities and new users getting priority.

Note: New Twitter users will get this new profile when creating an account and are walked through the account account process, so it’s actually a great way to practice using the new layout.

So over the next few weeks, when you log into your Twitter account and see your profile page has been replaced with the new page design, you will know you have been upgraded!

Don’t panic — your current profile picture and header image will automatically be resized to fit the new dimensions. If this works well for your page, great. If not, upload a new photo that will be more suitable for this fabulous new big real estate!

The new profile redesign looks quite similar to Facebook’s user profiles. Here’s an example of what the new layout looks like – quite dramatic!

Twitter New Profile Redesign 2014

Here are the changes and details you need to know to make your new Twitter Page dazzling:

1. Larger Header Photo

This is now at the top of the page and stretches across the entire length of the screen (1500×500). Amazing! To add a header image, you can upload a custom image of this size, or select a pre-loaded Theme from Twitter.

2. Your Profile Photo

This is much larger (400×400) and is now on the top left of the page, overlapping with the bottom left of the Header Photo.

3. Your Tweets

These take up most of the page, and you can scroll through them. When you follow new people, that info is included among your tweets.

4. Most Popular Tweets

Tweets that are retweeted, favorited, and replied to the most will appear slightly larger on your page that other tweets. This is supposed to help others find your best content easily

5. Pinning Tweet

You can pin one of your Tweets to the top of your page, like Facebook, so visitors to your page see this tweet first. Click on the ellipses (More menu) and select “Pin to Your Profile Page)

6. Filtered Tweets

When you are checking out other profiles, you can select the type of tweets you want to see: Tweets, Tweets with photos/videos, or Tweets with replies

7. Layout Changes

(a) Your name, handle, bio and pictures are now on the left side of the page, below your profile picture

(b) “Who to Follow” and “Trends” are now on the right side

(c) The tabs that show tweets, following, and followers are directly below the large header photo. These are now displayed like a collage of photos of your followers

(d) There are additional tabs for Favorites, photos/videos, and lists.

I suggest while you wait for this new change to hit your page, start preparing and experimenting with new Header and Profile photos so you can swap them out and make your page dazzling!

I love it!
