While there’s still a place for Yelp in my heart, I’ve found lately that I much prefer using Twitter and Foursquare to find new places and things to do here in Boston. Twitter is also a great recommendation engine, though not necessarily what it was designed for. Realtime feedback=realtime AWESOME. I’ve moved up, moved on.

This week flew by and flat out blew. I spent six hours on Wednesday with the good folks at Children’s Hospital Boston as they helped Megatron get re-hydrated from the nasty stomach bug that seems to be making its rounds only to be followed by giving him bottle after bottle of Pedialyte to get rehydrated. Hope your week was a better one.

One hot topic among the folks I met was the new advertising models for Facebook and Twitter. In the case of Twitter, its new model isn’t as dynamic as Facebook’s, but is still just as important for brands to keep an eye on. Twitter has also made it clear that verified accounts are important but are not going to come cheap.

You also see many folks on Twitter and Facebook sharing their latest posts over and over as it’s a way to bring more people to seeing what they are doing. One downside to oversharing is that communities like Twitter seem to self police themselves. It has more pop-ups than VH1’s Pop-Up Video.

The followers of corporate Twitter accounts grew 241% year over year. 40% of corporate Twitter accounts engage in some kind of customer service. For Twitter, you can sign up for a third party tool like Twitter Counter to track your account’s growth. For example if you are using Twitter, you can count the number of @ replies that you receive or the number of overall conversations that you have each month. Facebook provides this data under the site’s Insights function.
