Twitter has 243 million active monthly users. 'Below are the number of people active in social media, and all of them are big numbers. But what is interesting is the trend for podcasts. One of the reasons for this growth is the fact that many people listen to streaming audio in their car during commutes. And it’s not only well-known brands like NPR,  the cast of Walking Dead, or the Podcast Award-winning Rooster Teeth  podcast that are making this happen. On iTunes alone, in 2008, 46.8 million Americans had listened to a podcast. In 2012, that number increased to 75.4 million.
[Twitter] Twitter Changes the Social Data Ecosystem
'Today''s announcement that Twitter is buying Gnip raises big questions about the market for social media data. Twitter has bought other companies in the social media analysis space— BackType (2011), Bluefin Labs (2013), Trendrr (2013)—but Gnip is a bigger deal. Gnip competes with other Twitter partners, and Twitter competes with other Gnip partners. Here''s my initial take on what to watch for: Twitter competitors Twitter isn''t the only data source for Gnip. Will access to data from Twitter competitors remain available through Gnip?
